Our office is responsible for administrating Federal and State funds
to support public transportation in South Carolina.
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) apportionment of Section 5303 and a portion of the Section 5304 funds are transferred annually to the SCDOT Planning Office by OPT, under a consolidated planning grant. These funds are made available to the MPOs for transit planning initiatives.
This program makes FTA funding available directly to urbanized areas with a population of over 200,000, while urban areas with population over 50,000 but less than 200,000, funding are apportioned to the Governor of the State. This program makes FTA funding available to states for transporting elderly adults and people with disabilities. For additional information about this program refer to FTA C 9070.1F.
This program makes FTA funding available to states for the provision of public transportation to the general public in the rural areas. Funds can be used for project administration, operating and capital. For additional information about this program refer to FTA C 9040.1G
