Columbia, S.C. (February 18, 2025) - SCDOT officials confirmed that earlier today Jerad Rose, an employee with the agency, was killed while performing his duties alongside the highway in Dorchester County.
Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, “Today’s tragedy is yet another reminder of the danger our front line workers face as they work to improve the lives of South Carolinians. Jerad’s memory and his sacrifice in service to our state will not be forgotten. This is a tremendous loss and I would ask all of you to join us in lifting up his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers tonight.”
Rose started his career with SCDOT in 2024 as a surveyor in Dorchester County. Employees observed a moment of silence in his honor and he will be honored and recognized at the annual workers memorial service in April.
Any further requests for information about the incident should be directed to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
