SCDOT to begin overnight traffic shifts on US 17 bridge over the Waccamaw River in Georgetown County

Columbia, S.C. (February 1, 2024) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will begin bridge deck work on the US 17 bridge over the Waccamaw River in Georgetown County beginning February 4.

During the work on the bridge deck, drivers should expect two shifts to occur overnight. Work will begin on the northbound bridge deck first and traffic will shift to the southbound lanes with a single lane allocated to both directions. Once work moves to the southbound bridge deck, traffic will shift to the northbound lanes with a single lane allocated to both directions. The work is expected to last approximately six weeks.
