SCDOT Requests Public Comment on the 2021-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program to Include Bridge Replacement Projects in Cherokee and Dorchester Counties

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks public comment on the action to amend the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program to include the preliminary engineering, right of way, and construction phases of work for two bridge replacement projects in Cherokee and Dorchester Counties. SCDOT will receive public comment for a 21-day period from December 8, 2023 through December 29, 2023 .

The proposed project in Cherokee County is the replacement of the bridge along S-59 over Thicketty Creek (formerly Swafford Creek). The proposed project in Dorchester County is the replacement of the bridge on Horseford Road (S-56) over Four Hole Swamp. Both projects are being proposed to replace these bridges that are currently closed due to structural deficiencies. The cost for S-59 over Thicketty Creek is $3,850,000 and the cost for S-59 over Four Hole Swamp is $11,200,000.
