The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will perform bridge deck repairs that will require closing a lane on the US-17 southbound bridge over the Sampit River in Georgetown County beginning Wednesday, February 9, 2022, dependent on the weather. This lane closure will stay in place 24 hours a day and will require the placement of a temporary concrete barrier wall for the safety of the motoring public and workers. Southbound traffic over the bridge will stay reduced to one lane until the bridge repair work is complete in April 2022.
Motorists traveling along this section of US-17 are advised to use caution in the work zone and expect traffic congestion. Motorists are also encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid congestion on US-17 in the southbound direction.
