Public Information Meeting for the Proposed Coastal Carolina Pedestrian Improvements along SC-544 in Horry County

Meeting :

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is holding a Public Information Meeting for the proposed pedestrian improvements along SC-544 between Carter Lane and Elvington Loop. The meeting will be offered on Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Coastal Carolina University – Johnson Auditorium (Wall Building), located at 119 Chanticleer Drive East Conway, SC 29528.

The meeting will be an open house style meeting and will have displays and handouts for viewing.  Citizens will have the opportunity to speak with SCDOT representatives and to provide written comments regarding the project. Additionally, SCDOT wishes to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.

Project Purpose:

The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian safety along SC-544.  The proposed improvements include the installation of a raised concrete median with fencing and curbing between Carter Lane and Elvington Loop, and improved pedestrian crossing at Founders Drive.

**SC-544 will remain open to traffic during construction of the median by utilizing flagging operations and temporary lane closures.**
