The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Thursday, June 10, 2021, concerning a proposed safety improvement project at South Paraham and Campbell roads, about 10 miles northwest of Rock Hill in York County.
The meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bethelwoods Camp & Conference Center, 922 W. Mount Gallant Road, York, SC 29745. This is a drop-in meeting providing citizens with project displays and the opportunity to provide written comments.
Project information, including meeting material, and the opportunity to make comments and ask questions will also be available on the project website: https://scdotgis.online/ParahamRdSafetyProject
This website may also be accessed by visiting SCDOT's home page, www.scdot.org, and clicking on "Public Involvement Portal" and "Projects Under Development."
The proposed project will convert a 2-way stop intersection to a single-lane roundabout that will meet current design requirements, eliminate crossing conflicts and improve safety. The most recent study of intersections converted to a single-lane roundabout by the SCDOT Traffic Safety Office have shown to reduce injury crashes by 79 percent and total crashes by 64 percent.
The project is to be federally funded by the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), which uses a data-driven, strategic approach to identify locations with high crash rates or patterns.
For additional information concerning the project, the public may contact SCDOT Program Manager Brett McCutchan (803) 737-1564 in Columbia, or at McCutchaBJ@scdot.org. Persons with disabilities who may require special accommodations should contact Betty Gray at (803) 737-1395.
