Structural Design
The SCDOT Bridge Design Manual has been developed to provide engineers with the Departments standard bridge design policies and practices. Engineers should attempt to meet all of the criteria presented in the Manual, while fulfilling the Departments mission of providing a safe and efficient transportation system for the State.
Bridge Design Manual (2006)
The SCDOT Bridge Design Manual provides engineers with standard bridge design policies and practices. The SCDOT Bridge Design Manual was prepared based on the 3rd Edition of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, current through the 2005 Interims.
Complete ManualBridge Memoranda
Bridge design memos included on this site have been approved by the South Carolina Department of Transportation and are effective as of dates shown on the memos.
These design memos depict design policies and guidelines that apply exclusively to bridge designers and consultants of the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Bridge design memos will be issued periodically and it shall be the responsibility of the receiver of these files to keep them current with any updates.
Bridge design memos are issued to supplement or revise the requirements of the Manual. These memorandums will supersede the contents of the Manual. Memorandums dated prior to April 2006 will not apply to projects that are being designed using the criteria of the Manual.
